Ruby brings the mafia into the picture. What is your take on his involvement?

A complicated character.

Lots of potential connections and motivations that I've never seen fully explored.

He was an Orthodox Jew--evidently non-practicing, but those ties run deep and are forever. Lots of potential for a connection with a hostile foreign power.

He had dabbled in Communism, and had been a labor activist. Those ties, too, run deep, and the communists of his time were masters at living deep under cover. Very much fits the profile of a communist strong-arm, just waiting for the word to lean on someone.

I'm doubtful that Rubenstein just woke up that day, saw the Oswald move on TV and decided to rush down and kill him.

Much more likely that he was carrying out the wishes of a controlling power--who did not want Oswald sharing details of the plot--as he'd indicated with his public claim of being a patsy.

Again, using Occam's razor, and understanding the organizations potentially involved, extremely unlikely Rubenstein acted for CIA/FBI/USG. They were incapable of the entire conspiracy, much less making a decision and carrying out a hit in a matter of hours/days.

Much more likely that he acted for a foreign power (KGB/Mossad/Cuba?), or criminal power (Mafia/other?).

Another great reason for the USG/CIA/FBI to stonewall and obfuscate. Why wasn't Rubenstein on their radar? Not because he worked for them--but because they were incompetent.

Thanks for your reply. It seems that there's room for much research on this element of the situation. I rather wonder why it has been neglected. It seems that it would cast light on the assassination itself as you suggest.

Well, coincidentally.... Ron Unz published one of his mega-essays on just this subject yesterday.

Highly recommend it:
