Signal-Gate: Why is Jeff Goldberg Not in Jail?

A citizen of a hostile foreign power eavesdropped on a cabinet-level military session, stole details of the military plan, and published them

How's that different from Julian Assange's crimes?

Jeffrey Goldberg detests Normal Americans. The grandson of Jewish refugees from the Pale of the Russian empire (the standard pedigree of neoconservatives), he grew up among Irish Catholics on Long Island. He called his neighborhood there a wasteland of Irish pogromists. His fevered victim identity apparently views all Christians as blood-thirsty Jew-haters.

After visiting Israel at 13, he abandoned America, immigrated to Israel, worked on a kibbutz, and became an Israeli citizen. Not only did he become an Israeli citizen, he joined the Israeli army, put on the uniform, and guarded political prisoners in a notorious prison.

Jewish Currents magazine in 2018 portrayed Goldberg as being, in effect, the leader of the Jewish clique inside the Beltway:

In a 2013 profile in Washingtonian, Paul Starobin described a long list of prominent Jews in Washington as friends of Jeffrey Goldberg. These included David Rothkopf, then-CEO and editor of Foreign Policy; Michael Oren, Israel’s then-ambassador to the U.S.; David Gregory, then-host of Meet the Press; Franklin Foer, then-editor of The New Republic; New York Times columnist David Brooks; former U.S. Ambassador to Israel Martin Indyk; and then-Atlantic Editor in Chief James Bennet (not to mention New York-based New Yorker Editor in Chief David Remnick). I myself recently spotted Goldberg at an event at the legendary DC bookstore Politics and Prose, where he was accompanied by yet another friend, Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan. If you’re a Jew who matters inside the Beltway, there’s a decent chance you hang out with Goldberg.

Goldberg is a card-carrying ex-American, accepted citizenship of a hostile foreign power, voluntarily enlisted in the army of that hostile foreign power, served as a prison guard in an occupation prison of that hostile foreign power, during which the prison was noted to be in violation of the Geneva Convention, and prisoners were abused.

After demonstrating his fealty to the hostile foreign power, Goldberg returned to the USA, worked his affinity network to become a powerful journalist/cheerleader for any and all things pro-Israel.

A prominent Jewish intellectual describes Goldberg as a little bit in the business of deciding who is kosher and who is not… in the fetid Beltway swamp of pro-Israel commentators, journalists, pundits, and cheerleaders.

All of which is to say: Jeffrey Goldberg is NOT, as most critics of his violation of classified communications security and penetration of an American cabinet-level telecommunications conversation go, simply a journalist.

Let's put Goldberg and his actions into perspective: Go back in the previous paragraphs, take all the references to citizenship, serving in a foreign army, acting as the inside the Beltway arbiter of who is accepted in the foreign country's influence circles, and change them from Israel to China: A Chinese citizen, who left America, took the oath of citizenship of China, joined the Chinese army, served in the Chinese army as a prison guard in the political prison housing Uighurs, returned to America from China, became a powerful editor of an American journal commenting on American policy towards China, serves as the gate-keeper for which Americans are allowed to gain access to Chinese insights, has tight relationships with the Chinese embassy and ambassador, the Chinese premier, Chinese military and intelligence leaders.

Now do that again. Except this time, change all the references to Israel to Russia.

Now do it again. This time substitute Iran for Israel.

Now ask yourself: Why is this representative of a hostile foreign power, who, through some surely devious means inserted himself into a classified (as he claims) conversation about an American military operation, and then revealed details that he overheard, including sharing screenshots of the conversation, still walking around free? There were surely massive violations of multiple laws involved, from the time he found himself in the Signal chat, till today, as he continues to spout off about what he heard and saw.

Julian Assange was persecuted for years by the American security and legal system. His crimes were virtually the same as Goldberg's. As the foreign citizen editor of Wikileaks, he obtained access to American security and military information, and published it.

Why is Goldberg any different?

The Signal-gate scandal is that a foreign citizen of a hostile power, with extensive interests in the classified discussion, obtained access to that secure discussion and published details of the discussion.

The only other issue that needs to be dealt with is to find the conspiracy that resulted in the foreign citizen having access to the discussion.
